After 10 years in private clinical practice, Dr. Milne combined his extensive medical and business experience to found Gateway Billing Services (GBS) in 2013, as a service to our own orthopaedic practice, surgery centers, and imaging center. Over the last 9 years, he assembled a national level team of professionals to bring all areas of expertise to GBS in order to build a strong foundation to help other physician practices for the long term. He recognizes the importance of financial efficiencies in the revenue cycle for each practice. With Dr. Milne’s personal involvement, GBS has an excellent understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges physicians and organizations face as “healthcare delivery” and RCM continue to rapidly evolve.

In 2014, after 12 months spent establishing and optimizing GBS for our affiliated businesses, we began offering our expertise and services to outside client practices. We now serve orthopaedic practices, ASCs, plastic surgery groups and anesthesia groups as clients, and we helped establish a de novo multi-location physical therapy practice through startup advising and RCM services.

Dr. Milne is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and is fellowship trained in orthopaedic sports medicine from the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. In 2019, he completed an MBA at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with double majors in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship and the the Dean Patrick Harker Award, the highest peer elected award.

Dr. Milne also has double undergraduate majors in economics and business (B.A./B.B.A.) from SMU in Dallas, including a year at the London School of Economics (LSE) in London, England. He worked for Texas Commerce Bank (now JP Morgan) in Dallas as a financial analyst before pursuing premedical studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his M.D. at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and did his orthopaedic residency and general surgery internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

Dr. Milne spent 7 years with the St. Louis Cardinals MLB Baseball Club and was the Head Team Physician/Head Team Orthopaedic Surgeon during his last 3 seasons (until 2016). He has founded 5 separate medical clinical, imaging, and revenue cycle management companies that are all operating and financially successful today. He speaks nationally and internationally on shoulder and knee surgery. He has served on medical advisory boards to orthopaedic companies, the board of directors of a nonprofit regional sports commission and currently is a board member of a national medical device company.

Dr. Milne is happily married. He and his wife, Ellen, are raising 5 terrific children. The family enjoys hiking, fishing, surfing, skiing and spending time outdoors in Jackson Hole and California.
